Sometimes happens that with an installation of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office Communicator System that if you run and login on Office Communicator and then you run and try to use Outlook you get the message:

Outlook.ost file is in use and could not be accessed

The solution proposed by Outllok is to close other application which are locking the file and then restart Outlook.

Solution:

  1. Go to Start Menu and type “cmd” to open command prompt
  2. type “fixmapi” and press enter
  3. Close the command prompt
  4. The problem is fixed
